The Police
Officers Labor Council's Executive Committee is the governing body
of the organization. Members of the executive committee are elected
by the delegate body at the annual meeting and conference held every
August-September. There are nine (9) Executive Committee members.
Elections for five (5) of the committee members are held during
the even numbered years, while four (4) committee members are held
the odd numbered years. Only full time employees of a member organization
are eligible to hold elective office.

Greg
Huggett - Battle Creek Police Department - Chairman

Greg has been
with the Battle Creek Police Department since 1988. He is currently
a detective with the Department. Greg has served on the Executive
Committee since 1997. He is the Grievance Committee Chairman and
also sits on the Publication and Public Relations Committee. Greg
has his Masters Degree in Public Administration and a B.S. in Criminal
Justice from Western Michigan University.
Greg is married
and has two children.

Mike DeKam - Grand Rapids Police Department,
Communications

DeKam, a 14-year veteran of the Grand Rapids Police Department Communications Unit, replaces David J. VanHouten who retired in January.The emergency communications operator 3 began his term on Dec. 4, 2009. He has a degree in political science from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in international relations from Troy State University.As vice president of his local for 12 years, DeKam is also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he served as a commissioned officer obtaining the rank of Captain before his honorable discharge.DeKam, who is married and has two children, is also licensed by the Federal Communications Commission as an amateur radio operator.

Paul
Combs - Berkley Public Safety Department - Vice Chairman

Paul has been
an Executive Committee member since February 2000. Paul also serveds
on the Public Relations/Publications Committee. He has served as
Union President of his Association for nearly 6 years before being
promted to Sergeant. He is a twelve-year veteran of the police department.
Paul has a BA in Criminal Justice from Madonna University.

Rich
Bleich - Muskegon
Police Department

Rich has been a member of the Executive Committee
since January 2007 and serves on the Finance Committee. A veteran of the
Muskegon Police Department, Rich is a Detective whom has served
as his local association Secretary/Treasure since 2000. Rich,
a former US Marine (6 years) also is a member of the Roosevelt
Park City Council, Muskegon County Child Abuse Council Advisory
Board, married and proud father of four (4) children whom in his
spare time likes to fish and hunt.

Collin Birnie - Flint Police Department

Collin Birnie is the local POLC President for Flint Captains and Lieutenants Association. A union member since 1996, he has also served as steward, secretary and treasurer of the Captains and Lieutenants Association. The Lieutenant in charge of Special Operations and Identification Bureaus also performs additional duties including: Bomb Squad, Emergency Management, Dignitary Protection, Honor Guard and Firearms Instructor. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1988-1992. During his military service, he was assigned to Security Force Company and an Infantry Battalion. He also participated in Operation Desert Shield and Storm. He received an associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from Mott Community College. An avid outdoorsman, Birnie enjoys hunting and fishing. |

Brett
McGrew - Berrien County Sheriffs Department

Brett has been
a member of the Berrient County Sheriffs Department since 1994 and
has successfully completed the Michigan State Police Haz Mat Technical
Training. Brett was appointed to the Executive Committee in February
2004 and serves on the Public Relations/Publication Committee. He
is married with one child and enjoys boating, electronics and home
improvement projects. |

Brian
P. Miller - Lincoln Park Police Department

Brian is a veteran of the Lincoln Park Police Department,
serving since 1989, and a member of the Executive Committee since
2004. Brian currently serves as a member of the Grievance Review
Committee. Brian attended Henry Ford and Madonna University has
an Associates degree in Criminal Justice, and is President of his
local union. Brian has held such positions since 1998. |

Shane LaPorte - Jackson City Police Department

Shane LaPorte has served as the local POLC President for Jackson City Police for the past three years and has been on the local POLC Board for over 12 years. He began his career with Jackson Police as a cadet in 1989, completing the Mid Michigan Police Academy in 1991. LaPorte is an Honor Guard Member and a Defensive Tactics Instructor with Jackson City Police. He completed the Jackson Chamber of Commerce Leadership Academy and Western Wayne County SWAT Academy. LaPorte keeps active as a Varsity Wrestling Coach at Lumen Christi High, his alma mater, and with FireHogs travel hockey team, which is comprised of police and fire personnel. LaPorte studied Criminal Justice at Lansing Community College and Jackson Community College.

Thomas
Wilk - Macomb College Police Department

| Tom has been
Vice-Chairman and Executive Committee member since 1995. He currently
serves on the Public Relations/Publication Committee. Tom was a
sergeant of 25 years plus with the Detroit Police Department and
has an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. He served as a union
steward in the DPOA as well as the DPLSA. Tom was a Vietnam veteran
serving in the U.S. Navy and is a life long member of the VFW. Tom
is married with three children. Outside activities include Bow Hunting,
Golf and Cooking. |
