Peter Sudnick is retained counsel for the Police Officers Labor Council. He established his own firm, Sudnick Law, in 2008 after working as a partner at Dean & Fulkerson, a full-service law firm in Troy. He graduated cum laude from Detroit College of Law, now Michigan State University College of Law. He is a labor and employment attorney specializing in legal counsel to employers in the transportation service industries and public sector police unions, including the Detroit Police Lieutenants and Sergeants Association and Warren Police Officers Association. Peter has a unique combination of experience handling contract negotiations, grievance and interest arbitrations, unfair labor practice proceedings, unit clarification petitions, labor injunctions, EEOC complaints and civil litigation involving the defense of wrongful termination, sexual harassment, and race, sex, age and handicapped civil rights actions. He has been retained to represent the interests of active uniformed employees in the historic Detroit bankruptcy case. Peter has served as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association and Michigan Employment Relations Commission. He also served as an adjunct professor at Macomb County Community College and was listed as one of Metro Detroit’s Top Lawyers in 2010 in dbusiness, Detroit’s premier business journal.

John Goldpaugh

John Goldpaugh is retained counsel for the Police Officers Labor Council (POLC). John has been representing the POLC, the Detroit Police Officers Association, and other police unions the entire length of his career, which began in 1978. After graduating from the University of Detroit in 1969, he began his law career as a clerk for Norman Lippitt while attending the Detroit College of Law, now Michigan State University Detroit College of Law. He graduated from Detroit College of Law Magna Cum Laude in 1979 and stayed on with the Lippitt law firm until 1983 when John took over the practice entirely. Through Goldpaugh & Associates, John defends officers in their disciplinary cases and other departmental matters, including those involving internal affairs investigations, force investigations, Office of the Chief Investigator investigations and police shootings. John is an expert on police rights, including Garrity. Over the years, he has spoken at many police seminars and training sessions regarding these rights. John also defends police officers criminally and represents many members for all of their personal legal needs. His private practice includes criminal and domestic relations matters.
