OUTSTANDING SERVICE, NOTABLE ACT 312 AWARDS, NEW BOARD MEMBERS IN FALL JOURNAL
Oct 22, 2025

Three departments with a total of nine POLC-represented Police Officers were honored with POLC Outstanding Service Awards for their acts of bravery during the 2025 POLC/GELC Conference in Traverse City on Sept. 12. Two of the incidents involved harrowing police chases with armed suspects and the third involved officers intervening in a domestic dispute with an armed suspect. All told, the officers battled explosions, fires, and firearms to end the threats.

The POLC received noteworthy decisions in two ACT 312 arbitration cases believed to be the first Michigan community college campus police/public safety officers’ case and one of the first proceedings for corrections officers in the state. Both decisions were favorable for the POLC-represented units, resulting in significantly enhanced collective bargaining agreements.

Two new Executive Committee members were welcomed following their appointments, and the subsequent election of one of them to the board in September. They replaced retired Committee members Leigh Golden of Flint Police Department and Joe Meier of Oak Park Department of Public Safety.
