Michigan restaurants and bars will be permitted to reopen to in-person dining for three weeks, effective Feb. 1 under a new Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Epidemic Order.

Indoor dining capacity is limited to 25 percent or 100 maximum with six-foot distance between tables and a 10 p.m. curfew. Outdoor dining tents with four sides are allowed under the same rules, but night clubs remain closed.

The order, effective Feb. 1-21, also permits concessions at casinos, movie theaters and stadiums; and personal services requiring mask removal. Indoor residential gatherings remain limited to up to 10 people from two households, following MDHHS guidelines.

The state is offering a new program, MI COVID-19 Safer Dining, which provides certification for food services establishments with proper ventilation systems. Funding for this program is proposed by Whitmer in a supplemental budget request to the legislature.
