Three departments with a total of nine POLC-represented Police Officers were honored with POLC Outstanding Service Awards for their acts of bravery during the 2025 POLC/GELC Conference in Traverse City on Sept. 12. Two of the incidents involved harrowing police chases with armed suspects and the third involved officers intervening in a domestic dispute with an armed suspect.

By Jennifer Gomori, POJ Editor Nine POLC-represented Police Officers were honored for their bravery in extreme circumstances with 2025 POLC Outstanding Service Awards (OSA). Six Jackson Police Officers, two Barry County Sheriff’s Deputies, and a Metro Police Authority of Genesee County Sergeant were recognized during the POLC/GELC Annual Conference in Traverse City on Sept. 12, 2025.

On Oct. 23, NAPO was invited to participate in a law enforcement roundtable discussion led by President Trump at the White House on the work of the Administration’s Homeland Security Task Force and its efforts to combat cartels and international drug and human trafficking networks.

In an important win for NAPO, the Senate voted Oct. 9 to include the NAPO-backed amendment sponsored by Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Charles Grassley (R-IA) and Ranking Member Richard Durbin (D-IL) – the Law Enforcement and Crime Victims Support Package (S. Amdt. 3272) –  in the Fiscal 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

Michigan lawmakers approved a nearly $81 billion state budget on Oct. 3, narrowly avoiding a government shutdown, with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signing the Fiscal Year 2026 budget into law on Oct. 7.

By Jennifer Gomori, POJ Editor L’Anse Village Police Local Union President Fabian Kristo has never had an in-person meeting with his former POAM Labor Representative and it was becoming increasingly difficult to get a timely response about his officers’ concerns. So, the Upper Peninsula group decided to check out the competition and liked what they heard.

NAPO joined fellow members of the Coalition to Close the De Minimis Loophole in a letter to President Trump thanking him for taking decisive action to close the de minimis tariff loophole.

Rynbrandt is thankful for the Collin Birnie Scholarship Award he received during the Mott Community College police academy graduation May 1, 2025.
