Oakland Community College Police Academy graduate Dylan Erskine’s interest in law enforcement was piqued at a young age by his brother-in-law. Erskine’s determination to follow his example was evident to those watching him excel in the academy.
The academy staff honored Erskine with the Richard R. Weiler Scholarship Award. He graduated with an 89.

Alpena County Corrections Officers did not feel like their representation needs were being met by their former union, especially when their pensions were frozen during their last contract negotiations.
The 16-member group voted unanimously to part ways with Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) and join the Police Officers Labor Council (POLC) in May 2025.
House and Senate leadership are working to finalize the Fiscal 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) with the goal of releasing the text by Dec. 7 and votes in the House for the week of Dec. 8. Congress is scheduled to be in session for just two more weeks before adjourning for the year.

Nine POLC-represented Police Officers were honored for their bravery in extreme circumstances with 2025 POLC Outstanding Service Awards (OSA). Six Jackson Police Officers, two Barry County Sheriff’s Deputies, and a Metro Police Authority of Genesee County Sergeant were recognized during the POLC/GELC Annual Conference in Traverse City on Sept. 12, 2025.

L’Anse Village Police Local Union President Fabian Kristo has never had an in-person meeting with his former POAM Labor Representative and it was becoming increasingly difficult to get a timely response about his officers’ concerns. So, the Upper Peninsula group decided to check out the competition and liked what they heard.
