As the POLC and GELC continue to expand, the Unions recently welcomed four new member units who share their reasons for joining and their experiences becoming members.
New three-year agreement expires June 30, 2027.
Wages:
5% increase effective July 1, 2024.
3% increase effective July 1, 2025.
3% increase effective July 1, 2026.
Health Care: The Employer provided a 5% reduction in health care premium costs to members. The Dental coverage annual benefit increased to $1,500 per person.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer released her Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Budget recommendations on Feb. 5, which includes a 4 percent ongoing increase in revenue sharing, supporting police and fire, fixing roads, and quality of life improvements for Michigan residents.
The Governor’s recommended state budget totals $83.5 billion, which includes a general fund totaling $15.3 billion.

3% to 5% wage adjustment based on job classification effective July 1, 2024.

Manning & Safety: DPS Supervisors will receive a minimum of 3 hours of pay on call-ins. Employees will receive $300 Incentive Pay for using 1 day or less of Sick Time in a year.

When several Harrison Township Employees threatened to leave their former union, Local Stewards knew they had to act fast.
“The whole reason behind our change was half of our members had said they were ready to leave the union because they were dissatisfied with AFSCME,” said Harrison Township Chapter Chair Paula Phillis.
