Richard R. Weiler Scholarship Award recipient Michael Davedowski is following in the steps of a family line of law enforcement and military service members.

The City of Tawas City Police Department is in its infancy as a newer agency, but now their Full-Time Officers have experienced representation.
The two-person department, which is in the process of hiring a third full-time officer, joined the Police Officers Labor Council (POLC) in December 2022.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed legislation aimed at retaining police officers to keep communities safe. Law enforcement agencies may now enter into agreements to collect reimbursement for all or part of the cost of an employee’s academy training, based on the length of service, if the employee voluntarily departs the agency within four years of completing academy training.
On May 25, the Department of Justice (DOJ) released the National Accreditation Standards, which will be used to determine if a law enforcement agency accreditation entity qualifies as an “authorized, independent credentialing body” pursuant to Section 19 of the President’s Executive Order on police and criminal justice reform.

Two Macomb Community College Police Academy graduates were selected to receive Richard R. Weiler Scholarship Awards for taking the lead and inspiring their fellow classmates. Garrett Lauzon and James Lietzow were honored with the $500 Awards during Macomb Police Academy’s graduation ceremony Dec. 19, 2022.
